Although Weddington is primarily residential, several PGA Golf Courses and superb equestrian facilities can be found in the area. And, several annual festivals and events take place just minutes away. These events include the Queen’s Cup Steeplechase in Waxhaw, Farm City Festival at the county fairgrounds and the Blooming Arts Festival in Monroe. The Steeplechase provides some excitement, as jockeys and their thoroughbreds race over jumps in pursuit of the $85,000 purse. The Blooming Arts Festival is a great celebration of community, as locals get together and enjoy the arts, music and food of their county. The festival is Union County’s largest annual event, featuring arts and crafts, exhibits by kids, teens and gardeners.

Nearby Charlotte is home to two well known sports teams, the Charlotte Bobcats (NBA) and the Carolina Panthers (NFL). Another well known attraction, Discovery Place, is a science museum complete with an OMNIMAX theater and a variety of exhibits to keep the whole family entertained. A newly opened white water center is a training facility for the US Olympic Team and is open to the public. The center offers rafting, biking, rock climbing, a picnic area, and walking trails for family enjoyments. Carowinds Amusement park is 20 minutes away and offers season passes to the theme park.
